After a very long week of being a busy adult, I got to sit back in an IMAX with the largest bag of popcorn ever and a water bottle that I had smuggled into the theatre in an inauspiciously large cat lady purse. From the opening score to the very last credit, I ascended to the silver screen abyss – I felt just like the same gawky eleven year old that asked her mom if she could stay in her seat and watch Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone one more time.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them follows a young Newt Scamander on an impromptu adventure in the magical world of prohibition-era New York. We get to ride along with a mostly new cast of characters through the city and finally meet some amazing magical creatures that Potterheads have thus far only been able to read about. This movie has everything you could ever need: there’s snifflers, central park, ex-aurors, a suitcase I wish I owned, and some sweet, sweet wand work.
It’s a story that only J.K. Rowling could tell, brought to life by the same team that was able to capture her magic on film the first time. If you’re a fan like me, there’s no way you’ll only be able to see it once!
