Geekly Goodies!

Postby CallMeShaunna » Fri Sep 12, 2014 9:31 pm

So I just finished listening to the latest Ehducation episode, and have also been reading people's tweets lately discussing food, and it made me think of a thing that my sister did a few years ago: a foodie pen pal exchange.

Basically, people signed up and were randomly assigned a pen pal. Each person would then put together a little box of regional/favorite snacks and ship them off to their assigned pen pal...so if it works as planned, everyone sends a box, and everyone receives a box from another person. There's a cost range, obviously, so everything remains pretty fair... so this gives people a chance to share those foods that can only be found in your area, and try some new things, as well!

So the question is... given the recent food discussions, would anyone be interested in participating in something like this?

THIS MAKES ME THE HAPPIEST I'VE EVER BEEN HAPPY.

On two levels actually. Obviously, I'm glad that my show made everybody so hungry. But as you'll learn in the 3rd episode of Ehducation, Ash (my sun and stars) and I solidified our friendship by sending each other snacks! So basically I am so in for this!

I totally remember that! So basically, we are celebrating the GeeklyCon origin story.

I would send some clam chowder, but maple syrup seems like it may be a better choice. I'm in.

This is awesome. I am super pumped.

Just a quick thought! Don't forget to ask the person you're paired up with if they have any food allergies! A lot of my local snacks are very peanut-centric, so I don't want to accidentally murder someone, or give them a gift that is largely inedible.

On a related note, Check about Food related Taboos, too. You do not want to send a Box full of Beef Jerky to a Vegan Or Bacon Jerky to a Jewish person, either;) Also, remember many kinds of "Food" are problematic to mail to Certain Countries due to Customs Issues and time consuming transport issues as well. Just a notice in case of Foreign Individuals and their Partners, so that they are well informed:)

Also, thinking about joining this. But might wait til next Exchange, just to make sure I have discovered why those Cookies caught Fire last time! :P

I'm in, not sure what the postage cost would be to send to/from the UK though.

I'm worried because I signed up for this and got a box but I never got a person to send stuff to. I don't want someone to get nothing any ideas what I should do?
