NaNoWriMo 2014

Postby JonahG » Thu Sep 18, 2014 11:18 pm

For those unfamiliar, NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month. Participants attempt to write a 50k word novel over course of November. I've participated a few different times. Sometimes with excellent results. Sometimes I never quite got around to it.

It's a pretty huge commitment, but this year I am very determined to make a real go at it again. The Geekly community is full of amazing creative people, so I wanted to get the word out, get our own little support group going, and talk about novel prep, what books you've enjoyed on writing/craft/etc. and create some amazing stories. I'm bringing it up way in advance of the even because it's probably not the sort of commitment you want to just make a snap decision to do (although I have in the past, I'm not going to lie.)

If anyone is interested, you can add me as a writing buddy: http://nanowrimo.org/participants/thespambot/
I am a co-writer for SAYER.
I also have a personal website and a pretty active twitter feed.

That's something I've always wanted to try, but I can't make any promises right now. Lots of things are piling up on me at once. (Right now cramming as much photography knowledge as I can to do some engagement photos for my friend.)

I'm definitely giving it a shot if I'm back home by then, but it will be much harder if I'm still working in Alaska. We'll see, closer to mid-October!

3/4 SAYER writers are participating this year. I'm not sure if other Geekly hosts/writers/fans are as well. If you are, speak up!

Adam and I want to figure out the logistics of having online write-a-thons, word sprint challenges, etc. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please let us know.

I have always wanted to do this, but always hate the stuff I write lol. I will write and write and delete and start over lol. I may give it a shot next year.

I think I'll start today... 4 days in, but, anyways, if I can write half of it I'll be happy!

Tryed to register at the NaNoWriMo site, but couldn't, don't know why... Maybe because it is the 4th, but I'll write it anyways.

Plenty of time to catch up! The site has been down a lot because of the massive server load. They said at one point there were like 90k people trying to update their word-counts at the same time.

You can write in whatever language is comfortable for you. There are very few rules to participation. I know some are even doing house rules where they are allowed to use word count from other projects towards their total for the month.

As you may know by now, or don't, I started writing in english anyway... Struggling a little bit with some words, but I think I'm doing ok so far.

Thanks for the incentive!

And if anyone want to read what I'm writing and/or help with the spelling: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vb0 ... sp=sharing
