OlliOlli 2: Welcome to OlliWood is one of the most addictive games to come out this year. I am having severe trouble writing this review as every time I think about how great it is, I just go back and play it. I usually only get this way with deep RPG’s, but with its precision controls and stylish look, OlliOlli 2 has its hooks in me but good.

OlliOlli 2 is a 2d side scrolling skateboarding game. You use the left stick to set up tricks and grinds, and you hit the X button to stick your landings or bust into a manual to continue your trick combo. It’s very simple in design but the mastery of it takes serious skill. As the tricks become more complicated, the more you have to move the stick around. Then you add on the layer of rotating in the air with the L and R buttons, as well as making sure you hit that X button perfectly every time, and you have yourself a complex combo system that would make the most seasoned Tony Hawk Pro Skater player blush. There are five different stage themes and each of those stages have five levels on amateur and five levels for pro. In each of those levels there are different challenges for you to beat for both extra points, and bragging rights.

Is that not enough content for you? Well lucky for you, they have a daily score combo challenge called the ‘Daily Grind’ where you can post your score against the world. The spot where you throw down your sick moves changes every day, so it keeps it fresh.

The art in the game is crisp and smooth. It’s wonderful to look at while never being so distracting as to make you screw up a combo. Your characters animations are fluid, precise, and accurate. You never feel like it is the game’s fault that you beefed it on that last darkslide you tried to pull off.

The game is perfect for PS4 and for Vita. I prefer the Vita version personally as the bite sized levels are perfect for killing time on my break at work or while I’m out and about. Though you can really appreciate those crisp animations that much more on a HDTV through the PS4 a lot better.

To sweeten the deal on this game, it is Cross-Buy and Cross-Save. You can buy this for your PS4 and get the Vita version free and vice versa. You can also import your saves back and forth from both systems. This is true Playstation synergy in action. Did I mention it was free?! Yes! If you have PS plus this month (and if you own a PS4, why wouldn’t you?) this is one of your free games of the month!

I will leave you with these parting words as you fall down the rabbit hole that is OlliOlli 2
