Episode 29 - A Disproportionate Response

This is an… interesting episode full of a bit of experimintation. Mostly we tried to really dig into the question of “What if?” and learned to live with the consequences. Join us as we explore the pirate island of Bowbreaker Bay searching for clues for the Lost Isle. Maybe we make a friend or two. Maybe we murder an NPC or two.

Story

The party arrives at Bowbreaker Bay and starts asking around about The Lost Island. A bartender tells them about a Githyanki with an Unspellable Japanesey Githyanki Name and the party goes to talk to him. Reasonable talk all goes out the window when they burst into his house and immediately go off on a tangent about something else. Unspellable Japanesey Githyanki Name is a frail old man and runs in terror from the maniacs invading his house. Junpei Iori fires off a Thunder Wave to stop him but forgets to declare non-lethal damage and straight up murders him in the street. It takes the party a considerate amount of time to realize that they just murdered someone in the street and maybe that's not such a good thing.

After searching the dead Githyanki's house they find a depressing journal about how he was 3 silver pieces away from visiting his family on The Lost Island. There is an entry explaining that his map to the Cursed Cave was stolen by a nasty half orc pirate named Barth the Belligerent. So the party heads back to the tavern to ask about him. On the way, Junpei vastly overestimates both his Thievery and Bluff skills and steals a hat right off the head of a pirate, then tries to convince the pirate that he totally didn't do that. Unfortunately for Junpei, he is not a very smooth criminal and 3 other pirate witnesses come to beat him up. The rest of the party realizes that he is on the verge of death and comes to save him, but not before Junpei gets all his nice clothing robbed.

The party drags Junpei's beaten ass to the tavern and get him some soup and ale. Despite his extremely recent lesson in consequences he appears to have learned nothing. They learn that Barth has just been thrown out of his room and his stuff is still up there. Tum sneaks upstairs and gets the map to the Cursed Cave.
