Episode 66 - Paragon Paths and Emails

It has been awhile since we have slowed down and taken a moment to really look at where our characters are going. In this episode we discuss what we think the trajectory will be for the next several levels, including the imposingly important Paragon Paths.

We also took a moment to go through some of your emails! It was a blast to read and then answer your amazing questions. Please continue to send them if you have any burning questions floating around in your head!

Emails

  • Question 1:
    • Nachon asks, "I think we all know that Thom mastrabates with Blood Drinker and Aludra's probably in the kitchen cooking some Pigeon Pie, but needs to remember to where a hair net on her magnificent beard and mustachio. So only Harper is unknown. What does Harper do in his free time? Thanks, and please be as elaborate as possible."
      • Scowls at the sunset, on a hill, making fists. He contemplates the mistakes he's made, and sometimes spends time around other people, just to feel something, anything again. Also, training, and a lot of regret
  • Question 4:
    • Eric Edin says, "Crew, what is your preference: To do more serious stories that grow and follow characters, or shorter one-offs that are referential like the Thanksgiving, or Christmas Carol stories when playing DnD?"
      • Michael says they need the longer stories, Tim and Jennifer agree, and Bachmann makes reference to Doctor Who. They all agree that it requires a carefull balance.
  • Question 5:
    • Dustin Vinski asks some question about the wiki! Oh, Shit! (airhorn sounds!) Hey now, is that really neccessary? Whoah, who are you? I think you know who I am. This is getting a little off the rails, don't you think? Yeah, this sucks.
      • They'll get back with him on that.
    • He then asks Michael, "How early did you know exactly what everyone's backstroy was going to be? Like, when it was revealed that Thom the Dragonborn was/is Thom Vidalis. Did you know that at the start, or did you just kind of plan it out after Aludra's backstory was revealed?"
      • Again, it's a mix of stuff. For example, The Fall of House Vidalis storyline was known about nearly a year ago. The book that referenced it that Thom the Dragonborn got referenced the party, though not by name. But he didn't know Aludra's backstory until a couple days before hand.
  • Question 6:
    • Ashleigh Shadowbrook asks, "Your house is on fire, you have 60 seconds. Assuming your loved ones are outside, what is the one thing you save?"
      • Tim - Computer
      • Bachmann - Laptop Bag (presumable full of laptop)
      • Micael - Pets, if they don't count as loved ones
      • Tim - bookshelf with all his boardgames
        • Tim would grab ? It sound like he was about to say Risk: Legacy based on later answers
        • Jennifer would grab Lords of Waterdeep or Dominion. Probably Dominion
      • Jennifer - Laptop
    • Okay, besides the computers?
      • Tim - Xbox, or TV?
      • Michael - Blue Yeti, so he can keep podcasting
      • Bachmann - poster of Vanessa Carlton
  • Question 7:
    • Ashleigh Shadowbrook also asks, "What is your favorite species of tree?"
      • Bachmann - Family
      • Tim - Weed
      • Jennifer - Weeping Cherry Tree
      • Michael - Japanese Maple Tree
  • Question 8:
    • I don't know who this question is from, maybe also Ashleigh? Anyway, someone says, "This is your golden ticket! You are now the proud owner of a tax-free millions dollars! What next?"
      • Jennifer - Quit job
      • Tim - buy a gun, or a laser sharpened katana
      • Bachmann - Diversify the fuck out of those investments
      • Tim - pay off student loans, buy 2 4k moniters, update computer, PS4, a tattoo of a million dollars
      • Michael - Buy a chrome Fisker and buy geekly.com
      • Tim, Jennifer, and Bachmann - Move
      • Jennifer - buy dresses from ModCloth
      • Tim - buy every board game, start doing heroin, probably kill himself
  • Question 9:
    • Emily Morgan asks Michael if he can forgive her for using ideas from Drunks and Dragons in her own campaign.
      • If she doesn't tell them about the podcast, she can take all the credit for herself...
  • Question 10:
    • Charles Wetzel: "What do you see Geekly Inc. being in one year? Five years?"
      • More of what it is now, more fans, more videos, etc. Maybe be able to make money?
  • Question 11:
    • Many people in the chat, including Steph Kingston ask if Bachmann was born with a beard?
      • No, and there is picture of him without one.
  • Question 12:
    • Trant Thumble asks a few questions. #1: "Whatever happened to the instant campsite?"
      • They still have it.
    • #2: "Where is the bag of holding?"
      • Aludra still has it
    • #3: "Is ''Wolf Pack Tactics'' still a spell that Thom has?"
      • No, he swapped it out for something else?
      • He still has it, but gets rid of it.
    • #4: "Did anyone ever figure out what was written on [[Xantac|Xantac's]] ring?"
      • It was just random text, it wasn't important.
    • #5: "Why isn't #6 actually a question?"
    • #6: Talks about how much he enjoyed it when Tim listed "Dennis" as a direction
  • Question 13:
    • Eric Faye aks Tim, "Would Harper consider being a lich to stay alive forever? In other words, would Harper give up his good looks in return for immortality?"
      • No
    • Asks (I presume it's the same person) Jennifer "Have you tried getting your dice drunk before rolling them?"
    • Bachmann, "Has Thom considered collecting body parts to make a partner for his Frankensteinian monstrosity? I mean, you wouldn't want it to be lonely, right?"
      • He needs to make enough for one bro before he makes a bro for his bro
    • Michael, "How do you prepare to talk in your NPC accents?"
      • He claims to not be very good at it, so he doesn't prepare.
  • Question 14:
    • Landon Smith asks, "What are your favorite board games to play?" and asks what type, and card games and such, and if they have played Bonanza yet?
      • They have not played Bonanza
      • Tim - Lords of Waterdeep, or Risk: Legacy. For cards it's Euchre
      • Jennifer - Dominion
      • Bachmann - Candy Land?
  • Question 15:
    • Walk6070 asks, "Will we ever see New Newfoundland Land again?"
      • It's possible, they can go wherever they want
  • Question 16:
    • Landon Smith again, "What are your favorite graphic novels to read if any?"
      • Jennifer - Saga
      • Tim - The Walking Dead and Watchmen
      • Bachmann - Not graphic novels, per se, but ongoing titles, such as Scarlett Spider, Superior Spider-man, Iron Man, Venom, and Carnage, etc.
  • Question 17:
    • Trant Thumble again, asks, "How do I DM for a game where one of my players created the game. I'm the first person he's letting DM it."
      • It's a tricky area, but maybe do a few one off sessions to see how it goes
  • Question 18:
    • Alex Spearly says the recently began playing (due to the show), and he is making the change from PC to DM, and asks Michael for advice. Also asks Tim about Rankfarts.com, which just re-directs to geeklyinc.com
      • Say yes as much as possible, try to find out what influences and motivates the players.
  • Question 19:
    • Chase asks Tim, "Who would win in an honest fight between Tum, 'The Darkest of Blades' Thumble, and Titus, 'The Darkest of Blades' Harper?"
      • Harper, hands down, unless Tum takes him out in a single turn, which is possible, but not likely.
  • Question 20:
    • Someone, maybe Chase again, asks about Cleopatra, A Life
      • Jennifer hasn't read it, but wants to and is reading the Dangerous Women anthology. She and Tim both like reading fantasy.

Trivia

  • There is another Nika Howard reference
  • Harper's Dark Past is that he got a funny t-shirt he didn't like once
  • Thom doesn't know how he ended up alive, in the future, on a slab
  • The group still hasn't chosen a name
  • There is no reason that Hookbeard's beard wasn't hooked, it was just a random thing
  • The "Dennis" bit is a Homestar Runner reference
  • This maybe the beginning of the group's fascination with MPreg Sonic the Hedgehog NSFW
  • Ballard is hunkered down in New Newfoundland Land

SPOILER WARNING

  • The question about Harper becoming a lich is interesting when you consider the tenth season plot line. It features Tim's next character Toby being afraid to die, and is currently growing a clone of himself to move his soul into should he ever die
  • Also of note is the question put to Thom about making a bro for his bro out of bro parts. Once the endgame of these parts is revealed, we learn that he has created a bro for his bro
  • Also, Jennifer's next character seems to roll better, so it seems Eric Faye is some kind of prophet
