Well, that was a hell of a battle and a controversial episode. There was a lot of back and forth on social media about this episode. It’s hard to wrap up such a long story in a single episode, and some people were left wanting more. Either way, we had a ton of fun discussing the episode. Arya is the true hero of westeros, Jon is a zero, Sam has a good cry, and Dany doesn’t screw things up too bad.

  1. I got a lot more than you did out of Melisandre’s callback to Syrio Forel than you did. Magic is supposed to be rare, poorly understood, and difficult to access. Different cults have cropped up around different ways to do that – R’hllor, the weirwoods, the House of Black and White – but it’s still hard and their methods don’t work every time. I thought this moment – reminding Arya of a memory Melisandre couldn’t have known except by magic – was meant to be a reminder that for all the times she has screwed up, she *can* sometimes get it right.
