New Coventry. A town located somewhere between over there and around about here. A town full of people, places and stories. Depending on who you talk to New Coventry was built on everything from fertile farming land to an ancient burial ground and was founded by pious pilgrims or lizard-headed demons. Whatever the case, New Coventry has had its share of good times and bad and it sure has a lot of stories to go around.

The Living Campaign series aims to bring those stories, good and bad, to the fore. Each article will explore a new place, or a new person, or some new event that’s taken place in New Coventry. It may be something good, something not so good or just something that the good folks of New Coventry just don’t like talking about.

The setting is rules agnostic, so feel free to pick and choose whatever you like, but the general feel is 1920’s small town; don’t expect too many dragons (maybe). If you’re running short on inspiration, every so often the Living Campaign will talk about how to use its various bits and pieces.

So with that, welcome to New Coventry stranger.

Living Campaign: Adventures Part 3

This week, we won’t be delving into the town of New Coventry and looking at a new, exciting place to explore. Rather, we’ll take a step back and look at how you might integrate the Living Campaign setting into your own game. We’ll give be giving you a handful of adventure hooks for each piece published so far. Some will be relatively low-risk, while others might threaten the whole town!

Grindle Snatcher

Low Risk

Christmas time is generally, a time for cheer and laughter. But it seems that someone is determined to ruin the Christmas spirit. Local trouble maker Alan Termine has been seen dressing up and scaring the children of New Coventry in the most wonderful time of the year. Why not go teach him a lesson about Christmas cheer?

Medium Risk

While the Grindle Snatcher usually (at least according to the stories) targets naughty children, it seems like someone or something is targeting adults this Christmas with a rash of disappearances all over town in the week leading to Christmas. Santa recruiting slightly older elves? Or something more?

High Risk

Christmas is all but cancelled this year. Multiple, hunched beasts have been seen roaming the streets of New Coventry, leaving footprints in the snow and empty beds wherever they go. Now, the beasts gather in the forest on December 24th.

New Coventry Station

Low Risk

The New Coventry Station is, on the whole, a safe place. But lately an out of state gang has taken residence in the old cars around the station, causing trouble for Station Master Herbert Puffleton. With one too many chicken pastries going missing, something has to be done.

Medium Risk

The moors of New Coventry are a foggy and sometimes dangerous place. The latest New Coventry Trans Continental Express is now a good half hour late. And is stranded on the moors. Armed with only a rickety car and the promise of free chicken pastries for life, someone’s going to have go out and take a look.

High Risk

The first New Coventry Trans Continental Express has finally pulled in. But its passengers are changed. With the fog from the moors rolling into the station and the moon rising quickly, something has to be done before the witching hour approaches.

Whisper

The Whisper Well

Low Risk

Mr. Mackerton is one of the vocal few who believe that the Whisper Well is more than just wood and stone. Mackerton is suspicious that there may be some magic afoot at the site of this local curiosity, and he is willing to pay to find out! Someone should take up his offer of employment, and go do some research in the abandoned lot: Collect a couple twigs, transcribe the sounds of the well, and hold a short seance perhaps! It can’t be that dangerous just to listen to the whispers, right?

Medium Risk

One of the children who attends St. Isadore Elementary is crying in the grassy lot near the school. It seems that she dropped her favorite doll right down the Whisper Well! If only there was some kind hearted soul who is inventive enough to fish her doll out of the stony depths… Just be careful that you don’t pull up anything extra.

High Risk

Hmm, that is strange! The Whisper Well seems to be doing quite a bit less whispering, and quite a bit more screaming right now.

Oh no! Little Timmy fell down the well! And then his dog Spot tumbled in after! And then, coincidentally, his mother seemed to be pulled in also. It may be time for someone to find out what lies at the bottom of the Whisper Well, and put a stop to it before it gobbles up more innocent townsfolk.
