Nintendo just unveiled its Pro Controller for the Wii U during its pre-E3 online press conference. Iwata stated that it could be used in place of the awkward tablet in most cases.

It looks to be a the first standard Nintendo controller since the Gamecube and it is very reminiscent of the Xbox 360 controller with the analog stick and buttons switched on the right side. There are indicator lights at the bottom, which I can only assume are to indicate which player you are. The other thing to note is the home button. This will allow you to jump to the Miiverse, Nintendo’s new system interface.

The button placement may be awkward, but it looks like Nintendo is on the right path, giving core gamers a proper way to play Nintendo franchises. I’m looking at you Smash Brothers.
