Review – Easy Roller Dice Company’s Gun Metal “Serpent’s Blood” Dice

By Cthulhu & Friends on

I have dice, you have dice, we all have dice. Right? The difference between you and me: You use them. Historically I’ve always leaned toward using a dice roller app. Sometimes I’ll use one on my phone, but more often I’ll use the one built in to the character sheet app I use. I was beginning to fear that it’s making me lose some of my dope-ass roleplayer street cred, so I started looking for dice that I actually give a heck about using.

I stumbled across Easy Roller Dice Company during my quest. They’re fairly new to the scene, having opened their doors in mid 2014, but they’re already doing some pretty neat things in the world of polyhedral dice. Upon perusing their product line, I was immediately smitten with their gun metal dice, which they lovingly call “Serpent’s Blood.”

caseoverview

Before I even got to see the dice themselves, I was impressed by the leatherette bound display/storage case the dice live in.

Now THAT'S fancy.

Now THAT’S fancy.

I don’t know if it’s okay to say a set of dice are sexy. I mean, I’m pretty sure the bible says not to hump your dice or something, but these are some seriously sexy dice. Pictures don’t really do them justice. At first glance, they just look shiny and black, with bright green numbers. Then you pick them up and see that they’re actually an eldritch blackish chrome. The way the numbers contrast against the metal is pretty spectacular. These dice absolutely stand out among their dicey brethren.

There were no odd markings or scratches on the dice I received, but that's no surprise at all. The cool cats at Easy Roller inspect each die before shipping them out. That's dedication right there.

Being metal dice, of course they’re heavy as fuss. That means they’re LOUD as fuss. When these things clank and clack on the table, there can be no doubt that dice have been rolled. Honestly, that would usually be a deal breaker for me. If you’re like me and prefer an experience that’s a touch more quiet, you’re in luck, though. The display/storage case these dice dwell in doubles as an exceptional padded surface to tumble your dice upon. This gives you an added bonus of preventing you from rolling your dice straight off the table. Huzzah!

I suppose now is the part where I come clean and admit that I was provided these dice by Easy Roller for evaluation purposes. That being said, I also got the opportunity to check out some of their other wares. Their Legendary Copper Metal Dice are also impressive, having an old school, rugged look. These also come in the fancy case.

Perfect for when you play your rad Dwarven Fighter!

The folks at Easy Roller Dice Company are doing some pretty nifty things with dice these days, and I personally look forward to seeing more in the future. I can say in all honesty that I have dice that I will absolutely use every time I game now. Time to kiss that dice app goodbye, once and for all.
